It is in this region that the bull and the horse find their natural habitat. Land of inumerous horses and bulls ´houses´ that are dedicated to the creation and training of horses and bulls for the famous tourada.

History
There are signs of human presence that goes back to the pre-history. Its is mainly from the 15th Century that Almeirim grows. In 1411, D. João I ordered the construction of a palace there. It was around this palace that the village developed. Located in the vast plain lands in the region of Ribatejo, quite close to the Tejo river, Almeirim is today a city that has had a strong development, always with a great respect for its traditions and costumes.
Gastronomy
In Almeirim, the gastronomy has an important role, with a large number of quality restaurants, which are a good window for its delicious food. To start, sthe called stone soup, the most famous dish of the region, followed by the eels stew, a speciality from Foros de Benfica, and small beans with rice and a fried fish called carapau. The second part, it is started with grilled meats, lard, and naturally the pork chops. As a desert, the melon is in summer the chosen one.
Wine
Almeirim is a land of wine since the remote times of the romans. White wines, rosés and reds, they spread around their flavour of the best that is done in Portugal. In this place you will know some of the cellars where some of the most famous Ribatejo wines are produced, as well as the casts, wine making tecniques, the landscape and the people, in order for the pleasure of drinking to continue forever.
